Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has reassured Muslims that they are always welcome at the social media site.
In a short post on Facebook Wednesday, Zuckerberg said that in the aftermath of the Paris terrorist attacks carried out by Islamic State militants, and Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump’s call to block Muslims from entering the U.S., he “can only imagine the fear Muslims feel that they will be persecuted for the actions of others.”
But Zuckerberg said that as a Jew, “my parents taught me that we must stand up against attacks on all communities. Even if an attack isn’t against you today, in time attacks on freedom for anyone will hurt everyone.”
He said Muslims are “always welcome” on Facebook, and that “we will fight to protect your rights and create a peaceful and safe environment for you.”
