A contingent of more than 10,000 people marched in the Anti-War Rally held in Sydney yesterday. It was part of a worldwide rally protesting against the War in Iraq. Part of this rally were Muslims from all backgrounds under one banner of Muslims for Peace.
“Muslims are marching in Sydney this Saturday to stress that peace is the central, eternal message of Islam”, said Muslims for Peace spokesperson, Dr. Paul White, today.
“Muslims for Peace are organising a contingent in this Saturday’s anti-war march in Sydney, against the continued occupation by US, Australian and other troops”, he added.”Muslims believe that it is our duty to march as Australians on the most unfortunate first anniversary of the invasion and against the continued horrors being committed against Iraqis. We also welcome the peaceful demonstrations that will be held around the world this weekend. Muslims are obliged to oppose injustice in a dignified and peaceful way.The real meaning of the word, ‘Islam’ is ‘peace’. Contrary to the distortions spread by mainstream media and politicians, Muslims are peacemakers. The theme of the Muslim contingent in Saturday’s demonstration will was peace and non-violence.
