REWIND…REFLECT…RECLAIM
Performance to be held at the Grande Royale, Granville on Friday 21 December 2012
Guests will be treated to a special performance by international guest Amir Sulaiman.
Amir Sulaiman is an accomplished poet, activist and recording artists. A native of Rochester, New York, Amir began writing poetry at the age of 12 and is regarded by Abi Odun from The Lasts Poets as “The voice of this generation.” The ACLU, Amnesty International and Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow/PUSH Coalition are just some of the renowned organisations that have used Amir’s poetry and voice to raise awareness and campaign for social justice issues and art.
The event also features Australian artists Alia Gabres and Nour Abouzeid amongst other special guests, they will perform to what is expected to be an audience of 600 young people. The event will be followed by a poetry writing workshop on Saturday 22 December facilitated by Amir Sulaiman. The workshop will be held on at the Lebanese Muslim Association Library Room from 10:00am and will inspire and motivate young aspiring poets to artistically express themselves.
The event is in response to the recent conflict that yet again plagues Palestine and will aim to give a poetic voice for young people to raise their concerns about the injustices that Palestinians face on a day-to-day basis.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to Palestinian Projects.
Tickets $35 for Performance and $45 for workshop
