AUSTRALIA’S CHANGING RELIGIOUS PROFILE: CHALLENGES
Professor Gary Bouma will excavate the latest census 2011 results to unearth the faith profile spread across the Australian religious landscape. While the minority faith traditions are showing steady growth, incumbent religions are revealing a steady decline. Why is this so? Is Australia becoming more religious or more irreligious? What opportunities and challenges does the changing religious profile of Australia pose to the fragile social and religious harmony in Australia? How does the Australian Muslim population compare to other faith traditions? Professor Bouma is the head of school of humanities at the Monash
University and the Australia-pacific UNESCO chair of Interreligious Dialogue.
