Organizer: Mission of Hope
Alhamdulillah, as we are blessed to have an adequate meal for iftar, let us not forget about the people who can’t, here in our own Muslim community of Australia. This project has been operating since 2009.
We provide food hampers for hundreds of indivuduals and families around NSW and Woolworths gift vouchers for families around Australia.
One hamper consisted of non-perishable goods:4kg Rice
- 2L Oil/ghee
- 2L of Milk/Syrup
- Dates
- Noodles/Vermicelli/Soup packet
- 2 cans of meat (corned beef/tuna)
- 1 can of vegetable (tomato/corn/peas)
- 1 can Dip
- 1 packet of biscuits
- Chicken stock/spices
- Bottles of Water
- 1 jar of jam/Halawa
- Sugar
- Salt
- Tea/Coffee
The total cost of one hamper is equivalent to $45.00-$50.00.
Family hampers goes to families of the terminally ill, refugees and asylum seekers from Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and other various linguistic and ethnic backgrounds. It is sad that the reality is we have a great number of brothers and sisters here in Sydney, who have escaped the war and are homeless and living in mosques and musallas with no source of income and have gone unnoticed.
Mission of Hope will also be inviting isolated refugee individuals and families to break fast at the Families4Children Ramadan Iftar to be held on the 5th of August to be held at the Emporium. We did this last year by inviting 50-60 refugees from the African Muslim community to break fast at our Hayat House Ramadan Iftar. We further assisted by organising the community to assist in transporting the families to and from the venue. Iftar costs are also $50.00 per person to cover costs and it is a good communal way to reintegrate them into the community.
