There are several incentives for one who does wudu (ritual washing before prayer) at his residence before leaving for the masjid.
Here-under are two of those benefits:
1. Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reports that Rasulullah (ﷺ) said:
“When one performs wudu at home and leaves for the masjid solely to offer salah [in congregation], for every step taken towards the masjid [in this state of wudu] one sin is forgiven, one reward accrued, and one stage is elevated in the Hereafter.” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 647 and Sahih Muslim 1504)
2. Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (رضي الله عنه) reports that Rasulullah (ﷺ) said:
“One who performs wudu at home then proceeds to the masjid for fard salah secures the reward of a Haji in the state of ihram.” (Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 559)
Doing wudu at home before proceeding to the masjid is a recommended practice. Besides the above, it holds other spiritual benefits as well.
Let’s try and inculcate this noble practice in our daily routine.
