While you are undertaking your lifetime journey of Hajj, you have to be spiritually prepared and your ‘Maqsad’ or motive should be only one thing: to attain the pleasure of Allah Most High.
One of the most disturbing aspects of today’s Hajj is taking of selfies and videos. We sincerely appeal to our Muslim brothers and sisters to abstain from this practice during the Hajj when they are in the sacred places like Makkah Mukarramah (especially in front of the Kaabah while performing the Tawaf), in Safa and Marwah while doing the Sa’i, in Madinah Munawarrah (in front of the Rawdha Mubarak where our beloved Nabi (Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) is resting), and also while performing other rites.
This is one act which can easily get us derailed from our Maqsad. From the time we are getting ready for the blessed journey till the time we return, our full concentration is on the smartphone and we try to record every act of ours in it. Once all these pictures and videos are captured in our smartphone, we get tempted to post them in the social media. Such action can bring us very close to the sin of Riya (Showing-off) and there is a minimal barrier between Riya and Kibr (pride-arrogance). The Messenger of Allah (Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“He who has a grain of pride in his heart will not enter Jannat.”
Wishing all Hujjajis a Hajj Mabroor and Maqbool.
