A statement was made by the Iraqi army officials on Sunday that said that the air force of Iraq has executed a significant military operation that targeted a convoy carrying Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who is a notorious criminal terrorist in Middle East. Apparently he was going to attend a meeting that was scheduled in a town called Karablah in western Anbar province of Iraq.
Iraq said on Sunday its air force had hit the meeting and had also struck a convoy that was carrying Baghdadi to attend it. It said Baghdadi had been driven away from the convoy in an unknown condition. This was at least the third time there has been an attack on Baghdadi’s entourage.
Rafa al-Fahdawi, the leader of an organization grouping tribes opposed to Daesh in Anbar, confirmed the air raid, saying, “According to former members of the security forces living there, Baghdadi was seriously wounded and several Daesh leaders were killed”.
The ministry has been firm with its reports, but the Pentagon insists that the claims still need to be confirmed and celebration should be saved for when there is solid evidence that al-Baghdadi has been destroyed. He has already survived the multi-sided wars in the past and the previous air strikes that were led by the United States. This alone makes the latest report of an attack on al-Baghdadi more plausible than the claims of the past. The statement said the building hosting the meeting was also struck.
Iraqi media said Samarrai was injured in the airstrike and moved quickly from the scene of the attack. We will lose a leader but there are a thousand Baghdadis.
He is enemy No. 1 in the fight against ISIS, and this summer, USA intelligence officials said they believed Baghdadi was in the area of Raqqa, Syria, the de facto capital of the self-declared Islamic State.
IS firmly controls long stretches of the Euphrates valley on both sides of the border, which was effectively abolished when the militant group launched a huge offensive in Iraq a year ago.
