Amongst the supplications [ad’iyya, sing. du’a] that are readily accepted by Allah, without any veils, are those by parents for (or against!) their children. Some blessed sayings of our beloved Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace, in this regard:
Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and him peace, said, “There are three supplications that are never rejected: the supplication of a parent, the supplication of a fasting person, and the supplication of a traveller.” — Sunan Al-Kubra Al-Bayhaqi (5900)
Narrated Sayyiduna Abu Huraira: The Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace, said: “Three supplications are answered, there being no doubt about them; that of a father, that of a traveller and that of one who has been wronged.” — Sunan Abu Dawud (Book 8: Number 1531)
On the authority of Sayyiduna Jabir ibn Abdullah: “Don’t curse your own selves, nor your children, nor your belongings. There is the possibility that your curse may synchronize with the time when Allah is about to confer upon you what you demand and thus your prayer may be readily responded.” — Sahih Muslim (Book 42: Number 7149)
Sayyidina Abu Huraira related: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace said: “Three (kinds of) supplication are answered, no doubt about it: prayer of an oppressed, prayer of a traveller and the prayer of the father against his son.” — Jami’ al-Tirmidhi (Chapter 7: Number 1912) and Musnad al-Ahmed (7513)
With regards to making du’a against one’s children, the sage of Hadramawt, ImamAbdullah al-Haddad, writes:
A grave warning for parents, from every kind of warning: supplicating against their disobedient offspring. Indeed this increases harm, transgression and impiety, and some of this harm, as a result, will return upon the parents in this world. The supplication of parents is readily accepted so it is essential that supplication is made for them and not against them.
From the blessings of the parents supplication Allah will rectify the child. So revert towards righteousness as through piety the parent will benefit, the eyes are cooled, success will be granted to the child as per reward for obedience and (the child) is spared from the transgression of disobedience and wrongdoing. And Allah is the Guide and Helper.

With that said, TAQWA.sg is delighted to present this beautiful and encompassing supplication of Habib Abdullah b. Husain b. Tahirfor one’s progeny. Parents and couples aspiring towards parenthood will do well to make this supplication often to attain benefit.
The four Koranic verses in the beginning are an addition. Gracious acknowledgement to Ustaz Liyaket Ali, whose dual (English-Malay) translation of Habib Salim al-Shatiri’s “hazizu-l qalbi: munajatu-l ‘awfi mina-l ‘abdi-l malhufi“, introduced us to this du’a.
We have named the supplication, “Coolness of the Wellspring in Righteousness of the Offspring“. Parents are a wellspring of mercy for their offspring. And this supplication is certainly a means to parents attaining coolness in their being by virtue of the righteousness of their offspring.
We have also added two recitals from Shaikhuna Dr. Thaika Shuaib’s Al-Munjiyat for the safety, security, and protection of children.
And success is from Allah.
