A Crimean Tatar leader has said he questioned the legitimacy of this weekend’s controversial referendum, which could see the Black Sea peninsula become part of Russia, in a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I expressed doubts over the decision to organize a referendum and its legitimacy.”
Mustafa Dzhemilev, a leader of Crimea’s Muslim Tatar minority, said this to Ukraine’s Kanal 5 television hours after speaking to the Russian leader.
