Mission of Hope hosts 7th Annual Australian Muslim Achievement Awards (AMAA) in 2012
Hosted by Mission of Hope in an effort to recognise 16 individuals and organisations for their tireless efforts in the community, the much-anticipated AMAAs were held on Sunday 25th November 2012 at Docklands, Melbourne.
In their seventh year running and sponsored by the Islamic Museum of Australia and Human Appeal International Australia, the AMAAs are more than just a celebration of the ‘who’s who’ in the Muslim Community.
The AMAAs also recognised the efforts of non-Muslims who have helped foster mutual respect and understanding by awarding John Cornwall, President of HARDA , the prestigious Abyssinian Award.
Amongst the 15 celebrated award categories announced at the ceremony, the most anticipated categories included ‘AMAA Woman of the Year’, awarded to Amina Elshafei and the ‘AMAA Man of the Year’ awarded to Waleed Aly.
The ‘Australian Muslim Lifetime Achiever Award’, awarded to community leader Mohammed Hassan OAM. For our newest category, AMAA People’s Choice Award was awarded to Kamal Saleh whom also won the AMAA Creative Artist of the Year Award.
Mission of Hope President, Hanan Dover said that the Awards are instrumental in raising the profile of Australian Muslims, both at an individual and organisational level and promoting their achievements.
