Professor John C McDowell is the Morpeth Professor of Theology & Religious Studies at the University of Newcastle. He is from a land where it rains considerably more, Northerreland. Studying for a BD at the University of Aberdeen took him on a route into theology in general. He has undertaken doctoral research at Girton College in the University of Cambridge,, under the watchful eye of Professor Nicholas Lash, and thereafter spent a little over 8 years as the Meldrum Lecturer in Systematic Theology at New College in the University of Edinburgh. He is now at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences , the University of Newcastle.
