As women, we have learned rather entertaining ways to overcome simple things, such as bad hair days. A hijab has many fun and challenging quirks that no girl will ever readily admit to. These garments are an elegant, fun way to express yourself while also having a purpose. We are almost positive you or someone you know has experienced these eight, common struggles that only us, hijabis, have mastered.
Bad Hair Day? No Problem
One of the best things about wearing a hijab for many women is that you save so much time getting ready. Well, for most of us anyways. Other times, we take even more time to get ready because let’s be honest, matching fabric, colors, and patterns can be a struggle.
Matching Outfits Is Daunting
Have you ever watched a man try to find the perfect hat for that one outfit? Imagine that struggle, every day, before you go outside. In the end, we get creative. What you may see as trend setting fashion, may actually have been inspired by “this one was the first one I could fold correctly this morning before walking out the door.”
The Second You Put On a Hijab, You Gained Advance Knowledge on Islam.
For those of us taking this path, we must handle these questions with grace. You are not expected to know everything, which is why you are a student in your religion. You should know why you are wearing a hijab, and what it does for you, that is necessary knowledge.
If You Ever Need a Bobby Pin, We’ve Got Some To Spare
The weather, especially when it’s windy, is not our friend. On hot days, it is cooling and welcome, but anything more than a light breeze and it’s all over for our perfectly arranged headscarf.
Going Out Takes a Lot of Effort
Contrary to many beliefs, we don’t wear our hijab at home. The second we walk through the door, it is the first thing to come off and let our hair down. Yes, your hair can “hurt” and yes, staying home lets our hair breathe for a few extra hours. Who needs shopping!
We Question Our Decision with This Lifestyle
There will come a time whether it is a day you look awesome and don’t want to mess up your hair. Or maybe it is 100 degrees plus, and you have to walk any distance outside. These thoughts are often fleeting and no true hijabi would ever consider acting on them.
Others Have Hairstyles, We Have Knot Styles
Sounds funny doesn’t it? The way you tie your hijab can make or break an outfit. Do yourself a favor, and learn a few new styles. You don’t have to avoid social get-togethers, just because you can’t find a fun way to do your hijab.
Just Because We Cover Our Hair, Doesn’t Mean We Aren’t Expressive
One of the most troubling questions people ask, is how do I express myself? To me, the way I dress, my actions, and my emotions are entirely clear. Just because I am covered in material, doesn’t mean my character is smothered.
We have a lot to be thankful for in our day and age, and one thing that I am thankful for is that trends are changing. Modern hijabs are not what they used to be, and in fact, represent a new kind of freedom for both personal expression, and style choices. Combine such simple blessings with faith and there’s little more to ask for.
