Quite often we’re placed in a situation where we dwell on the negative aspects of life. We always complain about what AllāhTa’ala has not given us, forgetting the countless bounties Allāh has endowed us with – ALL FREE OF CHARGE.
One of the prettiest creatures that Allāh Ta’ala has created is a Peacock. But look at its feet. Only a few of us might be aware of the fact that a peacock has a dark and ugly looking pair of feet. However, to seemingly compensate the ugliness of the feet, Allāh has presented the peacock something astoundingly beautiful and colourful – a glorious tail that boasts of gleaming feathers! And Allāh has used the same awkward looking feet to carry the load of the peacock’s body that also includes the tail. This tail possesses spectacular beauty because of the large feathers that are distinguished by an array of breathtaking hues like blue, gold, red and several others. These iridescent colours in the tail feathers are produced by an optical effect called thin-film interference. The feather’s ‘eye pattern’ markings have a high degree of brightness and precision because their colour-producing mechanisms contain an extremely high level of optimum design. These tail feathers, or coverts, spread out in a distinctive train that is more than 60 percent of the bird’s total body length. It can be arched into a magnificent fan that reaches across the bird’s back and touches the ground on either side. Females are believed to choose their mates according to the size, colour, and quality of these stunning feather trains.
So the next time when we feel like grumbling about the things that are missing in our life or the things that are not in the state that we desire them to be in, then we should think of the numerous gifts that Allāh Ta’ala has presented to us which are in perfect condition and make His Shukrana in abundance.
