Australian Federal Police say up to 40 men caused extensive damage to the Syrian embassy in Canberra last night after smashing their way inside.
Police say the group tore up the ground floor of the O’Malley building, as protesters attacked five other Syrian embassies in Europe and the Middle East.
Three Syrian embassy staff were inside the Canberra building at the time of the incident, but were unhurt.
The incident follows the deaths more than 200 people yesterday in the city of Homs.
Six people were arrested in London after demonstrators stormed the Syrian embassy while the embassies in Athens, Berlin, Cairo and Kuwait were also damaged by protesters.
