1. The Horsehead Nebula
This photo of the Horsehead nebula was captured by NASA’s Hubble Telescope in infrared. It’s located in the constellation Orion about 1,500 light years away from us.
2. The M106 Galaxy
This massive galaxy is not much different than ours. Its long arms spiral outward and at the center there exists a supermassive black hole.
3. Black Hole Outburst in M83
This image was taken by the Chandra X-ray Observatory showing the spiral galaxy M83 some 15 million light years from Earth.
4. The Carina Nebula.
This nebula, located 6,500 years from the Earth, is a young system. It is comprised of dust, gas, and newly formed stars.
5. Serenity Nebula.
This is an artist’s rendition of the Serenity nebula.
Here’s the original:
6. The Ring Nebula
M57, or the Ring Nebula, is about 2,400 light years from Earth. It is the very bright remains of a now dead star. Even a small telescope can spot it.
7. Whirlpool Galaxy
This galaxy, photographed by Chandra X-ray Telescope, shows this spiral galaxy with one of its neighboring satellite galaxies.
8. The Sombrero Galaxy.
This massive, beautiful galaxy is over 50,000 light years from tip to tip. Where it gets its name is pretty obvious.
9. The Helix Nebula.
This photo, captured by the Spitzer Space Telescope, shows the high concentration of dust at the center, appearing as red, as well as green gas bursting outward. The red and green come from different wavelengths.
