Kids of the Ummah, a brightly illustrated Islamic educational children’s app for the iPhone, along with a collection of other related products by the same publisher won the National Multicultural Marketing Awards’ “Export Award”.
The suite of products is produced by a noted Muslim graphic designer, Peter Gould of Creative Cubed Design Studio, and is aimed at encouraging learning the basics such as the alphabet, as well as fostering a healthy appreciation of multiculturalism in a fun and engaging manner. The announcement was made last week at a gala dinner in Sydney.
The achievement was hailed by the Chair of the award commission, Stepan Kerkyasharian, as “another wonderful indication of our maturity as a truly multicultural nation”. He also noted that the award was an “important demonstration” of how Australians could teach others about acceptance and understanding in a “fragile world”.
The products send a message that Islam is a world religion and is found in every part of the world. Mr. Gould himself has described the Kids of the Ummah app as: “A fantastic way to introduce children to their A-Z alphabet, and their phonetic Arabic equivalents, help them become familiar with Muslim names and diverse cities and Muslim cultures around the world.”
Gould added that the products represent “a powerful agent for change and a very positive export brand proudly created and based in Sydney”. The publishers have reported strong, positive responses and from their export market which includes Indonesia, Turkey, the United State and France.
