A new Islamic application for the Apple iPhone and iPad has been released and has met with remarkable success. Adding to an emerging class of Islamic iPhone applications, the “Hadith of the Day” app is intended to make life and worship easier for Muslims via their iPhones.
The application was developed by the same London-based group that maintains the well-known “Hadith of the Day” Facebook page. It’s features include a Qibla finder to ascertain the direction of prayer, a collection of hadiths grouped by category, and an indexed Quran with verses also grouped into categories. There is also a dua (supplication) feature which allows for the sending of supplications to others via SMS or email.
According to a press release from the developers, the application has, since its launch in June, “ranked amongst the top 5 on Apple’s list of educational apps” having been downloaded “thousands” of times with high user ratings.
If applications like “Hadith of the Day” prove to be long term successes it could mean that smart-phones have not only affected the way people connect with each other but they may also play a positive role in being connected to God.
Andriod and Blackberry versions are expected in the future.
