Australia’sMuslim communityhave condemned theterrorist acts in Londonthat havethus far killed 39 people and left hundreds othersinjured.A statement issued by The Australian Muslim Civil RightsAdvocacy Network (AMCRAN- http://amcran.org)and supported by other Muslim organisations have labelled the attacks as barbaric.
“Suchattacks are barbaric and totally inconsistent with any kind of civiltradition, whether it be secular or religious,” AMCRAN co-convenor DrWaleed Kadous, said. “Such disrespect for life is a symbol ofbarbarity.”
“Regardless of who committed these acts, we unequivocally and unambiguously condemn these attacks.”
“Wewould like to express our condolences to the people of London, and letthem know that we stand with them, and that we will support them in thepursuit of those involved in these criminal acts and their punishmentunder the law.”
The editorof IslamicSydney.com, AhmedKilani, described those responsible for the attack as the “enemiesof humanity”.
“Whoeveris responsible for thisis espousing an ideology that is criminaland repulsive. They are the enemies of humanity. All peopleof good faith, regardless of race or religion, must work together toeliminate this evilfrom society.
“Wecondemnwithout reservation this horrendous atrocity. Our deepestsympathiesgo out to the families, relatives and friends of thevictims.”
AlthoughBritish government officials have yet to identify who is responsiblefor the attacks, a group calling itself “The Secret Organization of AlQaeda in Europe” posted a statement on an internet site, claimingresponsibility for the deadly attacks.
Howeverthis early claimof responsibility has been questioned by someexperts becausethe statement in which the group claimedresponsibility for the attacks contained an error in one of theQura’nic verses it cited. That suggests that the claim is phoney.
Ifthe attacks are found to be attributable to an Islamic organisation, the Australian Muslim community is fearful of a backlash and appealedfor public calm. ” These acts are against all Islamic teachings. If theperpetrators are found to be a so-called Islamic group, they only thing”Islamic” about them is their name. We believe the majority of theAustralian public will see that those responsible are the enemies of usall. Let’s hope there will be no more innocent victims” said MrKilani.
