On Love
Roba'i, In Persian
I long to open up my heart
For my heart do my part.
My story was yesterday's news
From rivals cannot keep apart.
On this holy night stay with me
Till the morning, do not depart.
On a night so dark as this,
My course, how can I chart?
O breath of life, help me tonight
That in the morn I make a start.
In my love for you, I will
My self and ego thwart.
Like Hafiz, being love smart;
I long to master that art.

The Intellectual is Always Showing Off
The intellectual is always showing off,
the lover is always getting lost.
The intellectual runs away.
afraid of drowning;
the whole business of love
is to drown in the sea.
Intellectuals plan their repose;
lovers are ashamed to rest.
The lover is always alone.
even surrounded by people;
like water and oil, he remains apart.
The man who goes to the trouble
of giving advice to a lover
get nothing. He's mocked by passion.
Love is like musk. It attracts attention.
Love is a tree, and the lovers are its shade.
(Kulliyat-e Shams, 21 )

that makes someone envious, conceited, malicious,
so that he doesn't know the evil he does
will strike him back.
If he could see his nothingness
and his deadly, festering wound,
pain would arise from looking within,
and that pain would save him.

the story of my life
but the ripple of tears
and the agony of my heart
wouldn't let me
i began to stutter
saying a word here and there
and all along i felt
as tender as a crystal
ready to be shattered
in this stormy sea
we call life
all the big ships
come apart
board by board
how can i survive
riding a lonely
little boat
with no oars
and no arms
my boat did finally break
by the waves
and i broke free
as i tied myself
to a single board
though the panic is gone
i am now offended
why should i be so helpless
rising with one wave
and falling with the next
i don't know
if i am
nonexistence
while i exist
but i know for sure
when i am
i am not
but
when i am not
then i am
now how can i be
a skeptic
about the
resurrection and
coming to life again
since in this world
i have many times
like my own imagination
died and
been born again
that is why
after a long agonizing life
as a hunter
i finally let go and got
hunted down and became free

Once more I seek audience with my very own King
Once again joyously I have spread my soul's wing.
Once more fate and fortune will beseech
That in this earthly camp, my tent I should pitch.
We gave credence to the angels as well as to the beast
The soul's bird returned once more to Solomon's soulful feast.
Intoxication by the Beloved has become my sweet abode
Soulful Joseph's lock of hair is in an uncurling mode.
Once a friend asked me, why thus engage your fate?
Imagine how is the one who has found that soulful state!
My determined Beloved unveiled his lovely face
The canary of the soul sang his songs of praise
The sweetness that is not found, even in dreams
From my own very teeth, thank goodness, sweetly teems.
Headless, footless, indeed, without retinue I lead
In my own sweet land, sweetness to myself feed.
My heart in search of shining Shams headed for Tabriz
Go, go, my golden heart, your own gold seek and seize.

the bitter becomes sweet
throughlove,
copper becomes gold
through love,
dregs becomeclear
through love,
pains become healing
through love,
the dead become living
through love,
the king becomes a slave

One afternoon while in a state of sujud
I asked my Merciful God,
'Why the world hereafter have You made?
Is this clay-world not suffice for Your Justice?
Would not You Glory manifest at this place?'
I closed my eyes as I felt the reply
I smiled as I learnt the secrets of Love
This love brings sense to man of craze
And captures the sense of those wise!
It cures those sickened like 'Al-Busiri'
And makes heart-sick like 'Lahori'
I am not of those deserving to elaborate it
A dark soul I am, no better than a hypocrite
Yet love is what makes me before Him bow
And Mustafa is the center of Cosmos of Love
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
Love breaks the knots of Logic and Reason
And ties another hundred knots on the heart
O Tasbih! I almost forgot about the reply
This is how love makes your senses fly
Came the reply,
"This world is too narrow and small
For the Beloved's greatness to call
That 'Wrapped One' is the leader for all times
'BC' and 'AD' cannot contain his greatness
There should come a single day and place
When every man born shall see his radiant face
He will march with humanity behind him
That day Creation shall be led by My Beloved Mim
And when he shall reach a point carrying 'Al-Hamd'
A question shall be asked 'Who is that'
The reply will come,
"I am Muhammad"
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam

While I still have life.
I am the dust on the path of Muhammad,
The Chosen One.
If anyone interprets my words In any other way,
I deplore that person,
And I deplore his words.

In this world you have three companions:
one is faithful, the others are treacherous.
The latter are friends and possessions;
the faithful one is excellence in deeds.
Your wealth won't come with you out of your palace;
your friend will come, but only as far as the grave.
When the day of doom comes to meet you,
your friend will say, "I've come this far, but no farther.
I will stand a while at your grave."
Your deeds alone are faithful: make them your refuge,
for they alone will accompany you into the depths of the tomb.

and save your soul. Be grateful that God gave you the gift of self-
discipline, for you had no power over it. He inspired it within you
with the command, "Be!"

***
Never lose hope
If the Beloved pushes you away
If He shuts the door on you, don’t go,
Be patient and wait!
It is your patience that will
Draw Him back.
If He blocks all your roads,
Be sure
He will show you a secret way
Unknown to others.
***
“The cure is in the pain”
If you befriend the Beloved
You will never be lonely.
If you learn to be flexible
You will never be helpless.
The moon shines because it
Does not escape the night.
The rose is scented because it
Has embraced the thorn…
***
Do not look back, my friend,
No one knows how the world began.
Do not fear the future; nothing lasts forever.
If you dwell on the past or the future,
You will miss the moment…

He in whose face the Beloved smiles sweetly,
What harm can befall him
From the sour looks of other people?
(II, 414)
***
Don’t make your home in other men’s land;
Do your work own work; don’t do the work of a stranger.
Who is the stranger?
Your earth body, the source of all your sorrows.
The hypocrite puts musk on his body
And puts his spirit in the ash-pit.
(II, 263-4; 268)
***
The spirit came from God and will return to God.
The present life is only a moment in between.
***
The Sufi’s book is not of ink and letters;
it is nothing but a heart white as snow.
(II, 159)
***
Prayer and praise were given to you,
But that prayer made your heart proud.
You thought yourself so intimate with God,
But many became separated from God this way.
(II, 339-40)

You are unaware the Beloved lives
In the core of your heart.
Stop the noise and
You will hear this voice
In the silence.

First you fall in love then worry about your life.
You rob and steal then worry about the law.
You profess to be in love
Yet still worry about what people say…

- "The earth and the sand are burning. Put your face on the burning sand and on the earth of the road, since all those who are wounded by love must have the imprint on their face, and the scar must be seen. Let the scar of the heart be seen, for by their scars are known the men who are in the way of love."

However - He is referring to the love of Allah am i right?
Its difficult to understand some of the old turkish language - sometimes it sounds he's referring to a person who he loves - but im sure he's referring to the love he has for Allah.

Read a chapter from me, unfold a secret from her [the creative Force]:
I am drunk of that wine forbidden by the lawgivers;
I am drunk of the wine of oneness; I am free of color and smell.
I am oblivious to this place; my mind is elsewhere;

Let me leave aside my worries.
The flowers are blooming
with the exultation of your Spirit.
By Allah!
I long to escape the prison of my ego
and lose myself
in the mountains and the desert.
These sad and lonely people tire me.
I long to revel in the drunken frenzy of your love
and feel the strength of Rustam in my hands.
I'm sick of mortal kings.
I long to see your light.
With lamps in hand
the sheikhs and mullahs roam
the dark alleys of these towns
not finding what they seek.
You are the Essence of the Essence,
The intoxication of Love.
I long to sing your praises
but stand mute
with the agony of wishing in my heart.
