There are quite a few documentaries and other shows on TV of interest to people on MV.

At the suggestion of Zeynab, after a post from Gloryofthenightsky, I'm starting this thread, as a community service for MV members and readers.

The mods may wish to sticky it, or move it to another forum if this is not deemed to be the most appropriate forum.

Please post here details of any TV docos or shows that are coming up that may be of interest to people on MV, to inform and/or to remind people.

Give date, time and channel, name of the program, and a bit of a spiel of what it's about.

As usual, Dateline, 830pm every Sunday on SBS :)

The Smuggler's Trail
David O'Shea travels to the hills outside Jakarta, where asylum seekers wait for people smugglers to transport them to the coast – en route to Australian waters.

We meet Mohibullah, an Afghan refugee who unlike many, has waited for ten long years for the right to legally settle in Australia. He's deeply frustrated and depressed by his experience .

"I think I am maybe head sick", he tells O'Shea .

This despair perhaps explains why so many recent arrivals have preferred not to be processed by the refugee system, instead quickly taking the journey to the leaky boats bound for Australia. O'Shea follows the smuggler's trail to the coast where the Indonesian police describe how they made a recent arrest of people who arrived at a small villa.

The hotel staff became suspicious when the would be boat people, refused to leave their rooms or even have the shutters open, despite the coastal scenery.

In Jakarta O'Shea meets another Afghan who arrived only one month ago. Habib says he has just lost $6000 to a people smuggler. He has no money, doesn't speak Indonesian and has no idea whatsoever how he will survive in the teeming metropolis.

"…right now I have too much problem here" he says.

Oh, and btw, watch Insight on Tuesday at 730pm on SBS everyone..they did one of those things where they interviewed a bunch of kids at age 13 and now they're going to interview them again at sixteen. A bunch of kids from my mum's school are going to be in it-I'm not sure if they'll make an issue of this but one of the girls now wears the niqab. I might go along to see the filming tomorrow night :D

:salam:

That's awesome. It's like a progress of an individual's identity. I remember a show called 7up or SevenUp or something, I think from the 80s (?) where the subjects were interviewed every seven years (Arabella beat me to it).

One of the girls wear the niqab and she's 16...:star:

Wassalaam.

Infamous Assassinations (By Israeli Zionist Terrorist Yigal Amir)

10:30pm - 11:00pm | Channel Seven - Sunday 10 May

http://au.tv.yahoo.c...a...5&year=2009

Documentary:

In 1995, one of Israel's greatest Prime Ministers, Yitzhak Rabin, was gunned down by a young Israeli opposed to his concept of "Land for Peace". There are a number of conspiracy theories linked to the assassination of Rabin and the trial revealed some suspicious shortcomings in his security arrangements.

If you're referring to your original post on the Q & A, which I nicked and reposted here, yours is still up. I just checked, in the General Media section, and it's still there. So, yes we can still discuss it there.

Also in that section is a thread and great commentary on the Retreat program on Compass.

Thanks Sarib. It would've been more useful if we'd known before-hand. Maybe next time when something comes up, we'll get much more notice. I think I've seen this doco before, a few years back. I've actually been to the very spot where Rabin was assassinated, very moving and heart-wrenching.

Nope, what has disappeared from this thread (which I believe Novela was responding to, and which pepe quoted from and replied to) was the posting I made of a review of Afghan Star which was on SBS last Friday...

Aaahhh, Afghan Star. I saw your post on it. Well I guess if it disappeared, then maybe either a glitsch in the system or else the topic was considered inappropriate. Who knows...
