Salaam

What is it with electrical appliances these days  They just don't last like they used to, even if with proper care and attention <_<

I bought a Wertheim model vacuum cleaner 5 years ago and its been in for repairs twice but now it doesn't even have power  Its a strong heavy one and back then we paid $900 for it <_< And my iron is a tefal one, the second in five years...its like everything has a useby date on it

Our Microwave just got busted... unfortunately not in the KABOOOOMM way, but it just sizzled and flopped. I wrote a "out of order, use the one above" sign on it. May it RIP.

I know this sounds weird, but it was a really good looking, handsome microwave. It was!

One of my dreams is to be rid of appliances, and just cook stuff on a fire (aboriginal oven style... those are awsome B) ). But when I think about 4 minute pasta snacks, well... perhaps i'll do the whoe 'ridding thing' later. :P

AliG, we used to have 21 people at my house. We needed two Microwaves. Now that we only have eleven, one is fine... i spose.

Chand, is that your microwave? The white one looks really 'unappealing' but it still does it's job. ^_^

do you reckon this symbolises something? :P

Our Sanyo Television of 20 years died on us a couple of weeks ago. It's sitting in the backyard - we couldn't throw it away yet... it's so hard to let go. Same with our vacuum cleaner, it was working really well until a few years ago when we moved into our new house. My mum vacuumed water, so it busted. We bought a new one after that, and it's not pulling as strongly as it used to -already- and it's only been what, 4 years?

We want to get a plasma or LCD widescreen TV now, but they say they stuff up really quickly. A new range of SED TVs are coming out apparently - but they are too expensive... so we don't know whether it's worth getting a $1000+ TV or just get a small cheapo one and do with that until manufacturers start getting it right?

But that doesn't look like it will happen. In the name of making everything more slimmer, lightweight, and more sleek looking, we end up loosing durability and sturdiness.

Salam

It is no mistake or 'issue' with the manufactures to make unreliable appliances and such. You will find that the product starts having problems by the time the warranty is over. That way youi will not pay for repairs and instead buy a new one...which keeps the manufacturers happy <_< they dont say 1, 2 or 5 years warranty for no reason, they know what the life expectancy of the product is.

Given that, alhamdulilah I have had no need to replace any of my appliances, they were all bought more than five years ago and they are still going strong...so take that Tefal :P

Edit: I just remembered..I once had a DVD player that never played DVDs properly, as it was still under warranty, they just replaced it as it would have costed them more to fix it.....the one that was replaced was crap as well so they gave up and gave me one of their latest model....persistance is the key ;)

Definitely, Aqua. :) The warranty is usually a good indication of how well the product is. If it's a one year warranty you can be sure to assume the product isn't that durable. Always get an extended warranty whenever possible -- or go for something that already has an extended warranty...

With the new widescreen TVs it's all one year.

if you do buy a widescreen flat panel TV

go for the LCD NOT Plasma, as plasma has less life expectency,

with most electronics these days it the luck of the pot.

I've heard the opposite!! Way too many trips for repairs and the suction is bad too :( I just did a choice search and miele cat and dog is the way to go - and irons pfft no more tefal either :snooty:

Aqua is spot on, they don't give you those 1yr warranties for nothing. What on earth do they do to make it so shoddy?

There were three families living there (at some stage) along with my Dad's parents, so there are four quartills of the house. My Uncle and his family are coming back! :w00t: so now there will be fifteen people in the house. ! Woohoo! My other uncle and his family live in Canberra.
