What? BOI is option B.
It's quite simple - should he continue to be mufti or are we happy to let journos and pollies choose our ulemah and leaders? -------------------- Islamaphobaphobe.

I would perfer someone with better english communication skills as well as understanding local politics if they were going to indulge themselves in the public arena.
After learning from other bro/sis on this forum i have changed my perpective about him. I respect him as a scholar but i do not agree with everything he says or the way he says it. Allah knows best. -------------------- Chahatone ki duniya mai

As much as I respect the Sheikh as a scholar, I really do think that we need someone who is better aware of the political climate he is operating in to be our representative. And having a good grasp on English is a must!

Truth is, i don't care what Position Shaykh Taj holds in the Australian Community, Since i live in NewZealand, it doesnt have any sort of effect on my life.
But what i do care about is the Lies that are being spread about Shaykh Taj. I've have emailed his Press Statement to dozens and dozens of people, as well as posted it on atleast 4 muslim forums. I pray that people Fwd it to others. Insha'allah. -------------------- When love is love, what else can you do but love love for being so loveable?

Everyone come to Lakemba mosque for Friday prayer this week. There's an appeal for all Muslims- male, female, hijabi's, non-hijabi's to attend the prayer. Show your solidarity with Sheikh Taj and express your anger at the media's barrage of lies and contortions of the truth over the past week. Come and show Australians that we stand united (for once!) against the attacks we constantly have to put up with.
For those who Muslims offended by Sheikh Taj and have so far declined from expressing their support, don't be fooled into believing this contraversy is solely about the mufti or about his comments. This is a direct attack on the community, attacking our head first and letting the destructive effect follow on to the body of our Ummah in Australia. They are trying to destroy us bit by bit, hoping to weaken our morale, our pride, our faith, satisfied as they've watched our "leaders" spin crazily over the last week, condemnding the sheikh and even calling for his resignation. For those who shy away from believing "crazy" conspiracy theories, don't be so naive as to believe there isn't an agenda behind the stirring up of this issue. When we hear Howard advising the Muslim community to take into consideration the "wider Australian community's opinions" on the sheikh when deciding his future as Mufti, how can we Muslims take such a patronising suggestion without expressing even a single voice of dissent? When a certain fraction within our community is pushing its own agenda so blatantly, lapping up the humiliation of Sheikh Taj and seeking to benefit from a fellow Muslim's hurt, how can we deny there aren't darker forces at play here? It's time we face facts as a Muslim community and understand that the disunity which we've become so accustomed to is the sole reason we are being treated like doormats in this country. It's time we stand up for what we believe in, regardless of whether we like this sheikh, or that sheikh or agree with them or not or the other million excuses we keep repeating and show our Muslim brethren that we support them. This extends to sheikh Taj. Whether you like him or not, whether you agree with him or not, respect him or not, the fact is he is Muslim brother, a learned scholar and the leader of our community. For what he's done in our community, for all the good he's spread, for his work in establishing Islam as a faith in Australia, the least we can do is try and show him a bit of support. So come to the Friday prayer at Lakemba, come to Parry Park on Saturday and prove that you really do care for the Muslim community and are willing to show this to the wider Australian community. -------------------- Where there's a lawyer, there's a pill.

It is with some amusement that I watch the Sheik Hilaly drama unfold on MV. There will even be a public rally pledging support and devotion.
Why am I amused? Because it is all so predictable and by the book. Laughingly so. And so I offer this piece by one of my favourite writers...with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. Enjoy QUOTE Like humans, animals use elaborate signals to advertise and maintain their rank in the hierarchy. The details vary among species but also have consistent similarities across the board, as the following two examples will illustrate. In packs of wolves the dominant animal walks erect and “proud”, stiff legged, deliberately paces, with head, tail, and ears up, and stares freely and casually at others. In the presence of rivals, the dominant animal bristles its pelt while curling its lips to show its teeth, and it takes first choice in food and space. A subordinate uses opposite signals. It turns away form the dominant individual while lowering its head, ears, and tail, and it keeps its fur sleeked and teeth covered. It grovels and slinks, and yields food and space when challenged. In troops of rhesus monkeys, the alpha male of the troop is remarkably similar in mannerisms to a dominant wolf. He keeps his head and tail up, walks in a deliberate, “regal” manner while casually staring at others. He climbs nearby objects to maintain height above his rivals. When challenged he stares hard at the opponent with mouth open - signalling aggression, not surprise - and sometimes slaps the ground with open palms to signal his readiness of attack. The male or female subordinate affects a furtive walk, holding its head and tail down, turning away from the alpha and other high ranking individuals. It keeps its mouth shut except for a fear grimace, and when challenged makes a cringing retreat. It yields space and food and, in the case of males, estrous females. My point is the following. Behavioural scientists from another planet would notice immediately the semiotic resemblance between animal submissive behaviour on the one hand and human obeisance to religious and civil authority on the other. They would point out that the most elaborate rites of obeisance are directed at the gods, the hyper-dominant if invisible members of the human group. And they would conclude, correctly, that in baseline social behaviour, not just in anatomy, Homo sapiens has only recently diverged in evolution from a nonhuman primate stock. Countless studies of animal species, with instinctive behaviour unobscured by cultural elaboration, have shown that membership in dominance orders pays off in survival and lifetime reproductive success. That is true not just for the dominant individuals, but the subordinates as well. Membership in either class gives animals better protection against enemies and better access to food, shelter, and mates than does solitary existence. Furthermore, subordination in the group is not necessarily permanent. Dominant individuals weaken and die, and as a result some of the underlings advance in rank and appropriate more resources. It would be surprising to find modern humans had managed to erase the old mammalian genetic programs and devise other means of distributing power. All evidence suggests that they have not. True to their primate heritage, people are easily seduced by confident, charismatic leaders, especially males. That predisposition is strongest in religious organizations. Cults form around such leaders…. E.O. Wilson, Consilience - Ethics and Religion Dishdash, the first option on your list will win hands down...... This is a direct attack on the community, attacking our head first and letting the destructive effect follow on to the body of our Ummah in Australia. Could not agree more. The evidence is the public hysteria about what we believe in, how we treat women *i.e boys taught to degrade females through childhood*, the silly stories springing up about hijab and so fourth. The disturbing thing is you get individuals 'representing' the muslim community? I represent myself as a muslim and it is my responsibility to be a good muslim in manners, appearance, knowledge and practice. It s*##s me when i hear these nobody's that I have never heard of spring up like weeds and claim they are talking on my behalf. Excuse my frustration. ezat -------------------- Bring back 'It's a knockout' reruns!
