Obviously not enough complained, although Labor's vote really went down the toilet. Greens seem to pick up well. If you look at the swing towards Liberal nationally (~ 3% ), it roughly equals the swing against One Nation party (also ~ 3% ) - coincidence?
It will be interesting to see the Senate results. God help us if we end up with a Liberal control there also.

A very sad indictment on the average Australian..... too stupid to realise they are being lied to constantly, or just dont care.
Here is something to amuse you while you think of 3 more years under Howard

Yeah looks like Australians are more concerned with interest rates than human rights issues. Did anyone see the part where that blonde lady on ch 9 said "I hope that, in the next elections Howard will consider human rights issues as well as the economy..." or something like that (it was better than i can remember).
I'm not too surprised that Liberals have won this election, but i'm surprised that they actually got more seats this time round than last.
oh well, at least my district (calwell) voted ALP heheheh... (as usual).
oh and by the way -- guess what? i got spammed by @vic.liberals.org.au haha... somebody from there tried to send me a virus today.

For the life of me, I cannot understand how these christian political parties always preference the Liberals.
No, I didn't vote Family First in either the lower house or the senate. I made sure my lower house preferential vote went to labor.

I thought Latham did very well regardless and ran an honest campaign.
3 more years of Howard, that really sucks.

my first concern before anyone is Mamdouh Habib abd David Hicks. As for depressed people, the real people who need psycho-brain therapy is the Australian public who forgot justice and humanity and voted to defend unrealistic fear of insecurity and a G.W Bush [MOD: mod the mod].

I don't see how you can come to this conclusion. Green preferences went to Labor, and in most cases the swing to Greens was greater than the swing away from Labor. If not for the Greens, the labor vote may have been even worse (if it could get any worse).
On another note, it seems the Senate has just become a rubber stamp for the Government as well, with the opposition and minor parties not having the numbers to block any legislation. Kiss goodbye Telstra, Unfair Dismissal laws and hello more draconian ASIO laws...

The simple fact is that the Greens were never going to remove howard...if you want to remove him then the votes should have gone to labour.
As for the 'protest' vote....our gesture just got lost in the wash.

I think there were many other greater factors, eg Libs increased primary vote, loss of seats in Tasmania and Victoria, etc.. I havent heard any of the commentators blame labor's loss on the increased green vote. I know when I voted Greens, I first made sure that their preferences went to Labor. Not that it would make any difference, since my seat is one of the safest Labor seats around. But check out the Green vote, compared to the Libs. I'd say thats pretty damn close to the Libs primary count.

There are also a large proportion that think it's Haram to vote. You needn't worry about them voting Green, Labor or anyone else.

I don't think anyone ever expected Greens on their own would remove howard outright - I think you're not giving Muslim voters enough credit. They are just as capable of making informed voting decisions as any other Australian.
The fact is, for the majority of cases, whether we voted Greens or Labor, the result would have been exactly the same. In the majority of seats, the Libs primary vote increased - voting Labor, Greens or any other party wont change that fact. That's why we have John "not-in-the-loop" Howard back in power.
