Amnesty slams governments over anti-terror tactics

Tactics to fight terrorism in Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe have failed to prevent horrific attacks on civilians, although they have encouraged rampant abuse of human rights, Amnesty International has charged.

White House Rejects Amnesty Report Criticism

"The United States is leading the way when it comes to protecting human rights and promoting human dignity," Mr. McClellan said. "We have liberated 50 million people in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have worked to advance freedom and democracy in the world so that people are governed under a rule of law and that there are protections in place for minority rights."

On the issue of Asylum seekers...
It is interesting to note that according to Australian law, people are not committing a crime by entering the country with no paper work in order to seek Asylum. Thus, the method that Australia uses in keeping and treating the Asylum seekers as it does, is directly going against its own principles. And the media only serves to further fuel this hypocracy. There was a question posed on ACA last night which asked the Australin public if they thought Australia's methods were too harsh...and they used the term 'illegal immigrants'. They don't even know, or more rightly, selectively not know their own laws!

European and Western nations are now looking to model their immigration systems on Australia's version.

It's troubles me that the countries and societies that once condemned Australia are now supporting the exact same illegal system.
